A lifelong musician since picking up an El Degas acoustic at 13, Alan Macpherson has spent decades playing live — fronting and supporting bands including Bill Smith, The Crayons, Vatican Radio, 200 Buix, Whatever, Tastes Like Chicken, Superball, and currently Prince Edward County's own The Barn Bandits.
While live gigging is clearly in his DNA in Canada and during his 15 years in Southern California, the studio has always been his quiet obsession. After years of collecting great gear but little time, Macpherson has finally turned inward. Hopium in the Basement, recorded in his home studio below ground level, is both a literal location and a late-career declaration: proof that musical creativity and unfinished songs don't expire — hopefully they just get better with age.
Both singles from Hopium In The Basement are available now on all major streaming platforms. More music coming soon.
